Rautāpatu

A mana-centred Indigenous organisation that specialises in hapū development, revitalising Te Taiao, and engaging with our young people, their families and communities.

We are not afraid to tackle the hard questions and learn from our experiences, recognising that real change occurs when we move past the comfort of the known.

"Whakamahia te Taiao hei tākoro mā te hunga rikiki".

Use the environment as toys for children.

This whakatauki acknowledges Tahuaroa McDonald who believed that a disconnection between our people and their natural environment would be detrimental to the wellbeing of the next generations, limiting their ability to take responsibility for the duties as marae as holders of Taranaki Māori knowledge. 'Te hunga ririki' is a Northern Taranaki term for children and youth.

Rautāpatu Purpose

Our Vision

A thriving, resilient Te Taiao with intergenerational impact.

Our Mission

To create and activate responses to the systemic challenges of our time. We do this by nurturing and protecting Te Taiao through indigenous wisdom and interconnected thinking, grounded in whakapapa and relationships, to ensure wellbeing for future generations and climate resilience.

Our Focus

We champion indigenous knowledge and co-create solutions at the intersection of climate change, culture, and community.

Focused on the four E4 Crises—Ecological, Energy, Economic, and Equity—we prioritise our role as Mana Whenua and apply a Te Ao Māori perspective. These interconnected crises pose complex challenges for our tribal communities across Aotearoa.

Our emphasis is on building community resilience to regenerate and revitalise all living elements within Te Taiao

The How...

To achieve our vision, we will consolidate our efforts across our entities to direct investment into local people and outcomes.

Importantly, we aim to activate opportunities with the guidance and support of our Roopuu Tautoko (Advisory Board) to foster a just and equitable world that supports a circular economy.

We are proud members of the
Ellen MacArthur Foundation community.
